The monastery communications office was a part of the mission advancement department.

ILLUMINATIONS is published periodically for friends of the sisters to provide practical information on philanthropic and financial planning issues.

A person can become a partner of St. Benedict by making a tax-deductible gift to the Sisters of St. Benedict Annual Fund at different levels.

The persons who appear in the brochures are those who have supported the sisters' retirement fund and who present their testimony to the sisters and the work they have done.

The Sisters of St. Benedict of Ferdinand, Indiana, initiated their web site, <thedome.org>, in late 1996. The website was remodeled and grew significantly during the period covered in this file. Also, For Heaven's Sake gift shop (now Monastery Gift Shop) expanded its online catalog, ordering and shipping.

Mission Advancement raises funds to support monastery incomes. In 2011-2012 Sister Barbara Lynn Schmitz directed Mission Advancement activities.

Ferdinand Benedictines ran an advertisement in the 2009 yearbook, page 191. Pictured in the ad are Sisters Kristine Anne Harpenau, Paulette Seng, Celeste Boda, and Catherine Marie Duenne.

IT'S WHAT WE DO is published annually to inform publics concerning the ministries of the Ferdinand Benedictines.

SOAR! was founded in 1986 to assist Catholic congregations in the care of their elderly and infirm members.

Florence Henderson came to Ferdinand to make the "Miracles Do Happen" film photographed and directed by Dan Brumett.

This file contains information on the Endowment for Our Sacred Space with testimonies by Prioress Sister Anita Louise Lowe, Director of Vocations Sister Jill Reuber, Gene and Mary Tempel, Bill bussing, and St. Meinrad Archabbot Kurt Stasiak. It also gives information on the various types of gifts to be made for the church.

These releases were received from the MIssion Advancement Communication Department. Most were written by Sister Ruth Gehres, O.S.U., who was a member of the Mission Advancement staff.

The monastery's formal development program (mission advancement) was begun in 1984. Sister Mary Walter Goebel was prioress; Sister Margaret Boarman was cirector. Gonser Gerber Tinker and Stuhr were consultants.

The main marble altar was erected during Mother Clarissa Riehl's administration.

The Annual Support Committee works with Mission Advancement and the prioress to raise Annual Fund income. The committee was begun in 1988.

Sister Mary Walter died in an automobile accident on February 26, 1990.

The request for the Ferdinand Benedictines to make mission appeals in the diocese was made by Sister Kathryn Huber, prioress.

The "Forward in Faith Campaign" was designed to raise funds for the renovation of St. Benedict Hall 1993-1995.

The Mechtilde of Hackeborn Sacred Music Series Endowment was established by the Verkamp family in honor of Sister Mary Aquin and Sister Mary Ann Verkamp in 2010. New windows were installed in St. Gertrude Hall and the monastic dining room after July 2010 when the first mailing to donors were sent. Plastic plaques were located with each window indicating donors.

The Ferdinand Benedictines began collaborating with the Family Scholar House director in Louisville in 2012.

Materials relating to event, Ferdinand, 1999 to present

On August 12, 1996, the Sisters of St. Benedict made a gift of Kyriale records to the Indiana University Archives of Traditional Music. The briefcase and materials were contributed to the Indiana Historical Society in May 2007.

American City Bureau worked with the monastery Mission Advancement Department (Development Department), beginning in 1987 through 2002.

This campaign was held to raise funds for the renovation of St. Benedict Hall. The architect was Gene Hausman; the principal contractor was Streicher Construction Company of Jasper, Indiana.

The publications advisory board preceded the Communications Committee.

This committee was begun when Sister Mary Walter Goebel was prioress and Sister Mary Carmel Spayd was director of development.

Marian Heights Academy had employed Gonser Gerber Tinker Stuhr to help establish its development program in the early 1970's. Bob Tinker was the academy's consultant.

The Speakers Bureau was made up of sisters who were willing to speak publicly on a variety of timely topics and issues. The program was under the direction of Sister Jane Michele McClure.

This publication was produced in the development office.

The monastery archives received this $2,500 grant to support the organization and preservation of the monastery's photograph collection. See "Finding Aids" for names of individual files.

The first Golf Scramble took place on September 22, 2003. Sister Rose Mary Rexing was the director of mission advancement.

Noffsinger & Deig, Attorneys-at-Law, were the lawyers who handled the Florian B. Debes' Estate. The Convent of the Immaculate Conception was one of five beneficiaries of the estate of Mr. Debes.

The Marketing Task Force was formed by Sister Kristine Anne Harpenau to search for a marketing firm to design and to help implement a wholistic marketing plan for the Ferdinand Benedictines.

The monastery established its mission advancement (development department) in the mid 1980's. A department first formal report to donors was published in 1985-1986. The academy had its development department from 1972-1989.

Appeals are sent annually and semi-annually for the Annual Fund.

John V. McCarthy & Associates, Inc., were the con- sultants for this money drive. Charles Starrs was campaign coordinator. The active phase of the cam- paign ran from 5/20/61 to 12/17/61. The continuation phase was from 7/20/63 to 8/27/63.

The Endowment Advisory Committee was initiated in 1990. Sister Mary Carmel Spayd was director of development.

The memorial program was designed to give persons an opportunity to honor their deceased loved ones by a contribution to the Sisters of St. Benedict.

The Planned Giving Program provides opportunities for donors to make future gifts to the Sisters of St. Benedict.

This was the plan used for the election of Sister Kathryn Huber in 1989.
