The Diocese of Evansville was established on November 11, 1944. Henry J. Grimmelsman was installed as first bishop on January 3, 1945. The HISTORY OF THE DIOCESE OF EVANSVILLE appear in THE MESSAGE, Vol. 19, No. 36, May 12, 1989. These materials concern the history of the Diocese of Evansville which was formed from a portion of the Diocese of Indianapolis, which was formed from the Diocese of Vincennes, which was formed from earlier dioceses of Bardstown, Baltimore, and Quebec.
