Hildegard, a renowned Benedictine mystic, lived in the 12th century. The St. Hildegard Society received its name from the Saint.

This rather short book gives the history of the medal of St. Benedict.

Helfta, a center of intellectual activity in thireenth-century Saxony, was the site of a Cistercian monastery, a religious community that included the mystics Gertrude the Great, Mechtild of Hackeborn, and Mechtilde of Magdeburg.
